codex cli failed - CC Switch
Quick fix
Upgrading cc-switch to v3.16.3 or newer fixes the local environment detection and the blocked upgrade path.
Symptom
Section titled “Symptom”codex cli 失败:codex cli failed:
In v3.16.1, the cc-switch local environment detection and CLI tool upgrade path have several underlying defects. The code fails to anchor the install source and absolute path correctly, so a missing platform binary triggers an update failure outright, and improper character escaping on Windows garbles the output. Older version probing also badly blocks the About panel rendering, so you cannot see the current state.
For tools with no built-in self-update command officially (the Gemini CLI, for instance), cc-switch calling their update endpoint returns a failure notice as expected. All of the above are defects in the internal upgrade pipeline and cross-platform support, not configuration mistakes.
Open cc-switch, go to settings or the about page, and upgrade to v3.16.3 or newer.
Restart the cc-switch application completely, then click "update" next to the tool again to verify it recovered.
Affected Versions

Section titled “Source Issues”This page is distilled from 2 real issues
- Why does clicking update on the Gemini CLI always report failure?
- The official Gemini CLI does not provide a self-update command yet, so cc-switch calling its update endpoint returns a failure. That is an official limitation, not a software bug.
- The About panel still does not show the current version after upgrading. What now?
- That display blocking was fixed in v3.16.4. Make sure you are on v3.16.4 or newer; if it still does not show, provide the latest runtime logs so it can be investigated.
